View Full Version : My RHCA / RHCDS / RHCSS
Perhaps I should have posted this some time back, but I guess time got the better of me. Since the start of 2008, I have been putting off posting this - its the same lame excuse ... "Too Busy" ...
In any case, in late 2007, I managed to cut a deal that allowed me to train and get certified in the following certifications:
# Red Hat Certified Architect (RHCA)
# Red Hat Certified Datacenter Specialist (RHCDS)
# Red Hat Certified Security Specialist (RHCSS)
Yes - all 3 certifications at the same time. WHOA. This of course is in addition to my existing Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE), Red Hat Certified Instructor (RHCI) and Red Hat Certified Examiner (RHCX) status.
I guess the main motivation behind the arduous task of trying to obtain all the 3 certifications at one go is that fact that the course brings with it a certain level of expertise, not shown in RHCE. It exposes me to a different level of skill sets and certainly, since I am already in exam mode, no point not taking everything at one go :P
Oh, add to that -- there are currently NO RHCA, RHCDS, RHCSS in Singapore that is not employed by Red Hat. Yes ... that's true ... ALL Singapore based RHCA, RHCDS, RHCSS are employed by Red Hat. So if I were to attain certification, that would put me as the only external. WHOA. What a thought.

Red Hat Certified Datacenter Specialist (RHCDS)
Overview
An RHCDS has the skills and knowledge necessary to build reliable, available, scalable, and manageable solutions in mission-critical datacenter environments using fully-supported open source technologies from Red Hat.
Current RHCEs will obtain RHCDS certification upon successfully passing all three Expertise Exams:
* EX401 Deployment, Virtualization, and Systems Management
* EX423 Directory Services and Authentication
* EX436 Clustering and Storage Management
These courses build on system administration skills covered in the Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) program, which is a prerequisite.
All upper-level courses are all peer level, meaning each can be taken by someone with RHCE or equivalent skills. Any order is fine.

Its been a fantastic roller-coaster ride. Starting from my first lesson on 7th Jan 2008 till yesterday's exam 10th Apr 2008 - 6 modules/exams in 90 days (yes, I counted :P) The experience has been enriching and no doubt, I have emerged better from the experience.
Thank you everyone for all your concern, encouragement, support and assistance. XIE XIE!
UPDATE:
I am now told that I am the 5th RHCA in Singapore/ASEAN and the 1st in Singapore outside Red Hat. As I know, the RHCA list in Singapore/ASEAN reads as follows
1. Greg Hosler [Senior Instructor at Red Hat]
2. Ng Hak Beng [Instructor/Consultant at Red Hat]
2. Sivaram Shunmugam [Solutions Architect at Red Hat]
4. Delon Liew [System Administrator at Red Hat]
I am told that it's too close to call between Sivaram and Hak Beng, hence there is a tie between them. I'm happy to be 5th on the list and to take my place there ahead of others :P and to be politically correct, probably the
only RHCA in Singapore/ASEAN that doesn't receive a monthly pay-slip from Red Hat :)
So right now, as of 11th Apr 2008, RHCA list in Singapore/ASEAN reads as follows
1. Greg Hosler [Senior Instructor at Red Hat]
2. Ng Hak Beng [Instructor/Consultant at Red Hat]
2. Sivaram Shunmugam [Solutions Architect at Red Hat]
4. Delon Liew [System Administrator at Red Hat]
5. Roy Ong [Solutions Architect at Nixperience / Principal Consultant at RMR Solutions]

Greetings:
Red Hat Certification would like to invite its community of certified
professionals to visit the new Certification Central and update their
certification profile:
https://www.redhat.com/wapps/certifications/
What is new?
* Your certification can now be mapped to your Red Hat Network login.
* Certified on multiple releases or technologies? All your
certifications can now be mapped to your Red Hat Network login and
they can ALL be visible when someone verifies your certification using
a new, consolidated number we have issued (your old numbers will
remain verifiable.) Your new number is 100-000-561.
* Certified on multiple releases or technologies and want to represent
all that accomplishment with a single certification number on your
business card? Now you can do that.
* Logo art is downloadable for ALL Red Hat certifications to which you
are entitled in the Downloads area.
These new capabilities are the first in what will be a series of new
features for our certified community.
Best wishes,
Red Hat Certification
